Welcome

In 2007, a group of students came together and identified a common problem – racism in their schools. They quickly came up with a strategy – sharing student stories about race and racism with other students. The Speak Up! Project was born!

Welcome to the online home of the Speak Up! Project – a resource for young people, educators, and school leaders who want to make positive changes in their schools and communities. This website is the companion to the Speak Up! Anthology, a printed book of student stories, discussion questions, and activities, available through the site. Together, we offer the anthology and the website as a set of tools for starting important discussions about race and racism.

There are many ways to use these resources:

  • Download or purchase copies of the Speak Up! Anthology
  • Share your own stories, questions and ideas through our discussion board
  • Find tools and tips on how to use these tools in your organization or classroom
  • And more…
